USS Ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves outside the range of human hearing to create images. It is a technique that does not use ionizing radiation and is in routine use for antenatal scans during pregnancy. The UK is relatively unique compared to the US, Australia, New Zealand and much of Europe in that your scan will be performed by the reporting radiologist. Ultrasound is a dynamic imaging modality and it is quite difficult to report the examination from static images captured by a sonographer as happens in these other countries. Ultrasound is a simple test that your GP can refer you for directly to us. An internal ultrasound scan of the pelvis usually offers much more information about the uterus and its lining and the ovaries than would be possible with a trans-abdominal ultrasound. An internal scan can also be performed without the need for a full bladder. |
